An expanded version of his 2005 short film of the same name, director Alex Merkin’s feature-length noir thriller follows the tense stand off between a young man, his best friend, and his fiancée. Cloverfield star Mike Vogel appears opposite Brittany Murphy and Danny Pino in a film penned by Merkin and Jesse Mittelstadt – the same co-writers who collaborated on the original short. [D-Man2010]

Terry learns that his fiance, June, has checked into a hotel with another man, sending him into a fit of near-homicidal fury. Desperate to hear a friendly voice, he calls his best friend, admitting he’s in a hotel room across thehall from June and plans to kill her lover.

A couple years ago Alex Merkin made a short film called Across the Hall, which ran the film festival circuit. Entourage’s Adrian Grenier starred, and festival-goers compared the Merkin short to a modern day Hitchcock flim. On February 6th Merkin will go into production on an expanded feature length version of the film noir thriller starring Mike Vogel (Cloverfield),Brittany Murphy and Danny Pino (Cold Case). An interesting story, though a little predictable.

The suspense was upheld throughout the movie, and there was real tension in many scenes, accomplished through a nerve-wracking score and drawn-out scenes that got my teeth grinding.

I immensely enjoyed the cinematography and effects .. it created a dark and brooding atmosphere that had me mourning the conclusion before it came about.

The acting was fairly good, no real complaints. I especially enjoyed the hotel concierge character, who added an old-school feel to the film.

Overall, I definitely enjoyed the movie, although I found the story to be almost too simple for its length; it felt like a short story stretched to fit a feature length film.
A quiet night takes a dangerous turn when Julian receives a frantic phone call from his best friend, Terry. Terry claims to have followed his unfaithfulfiancée, June, to a seedy hotel on the other side of town. To make matters worse, he’s staked out the room across the hall from her, a bottle of whiskey in one hand and a revolver in the other. Julian pleads with his friend to stay put while he rushes to avert disaster.
