Indian Movie Review Rockin Meera is a musical comedy starring Sonu Sood and Nauheed Cyrusi in lead roles along with TQ, a popular singer from Alabama. Written and directed by Param Gill, the film is shot in San Francisco and Rajasthan. Rockin Meera features a hip hop fusion soundtrack composed by Will Storkson ( Lost in Translation ) that takes off the gangsta rap to the confluence of Indian Ragas.
‘ Kabaddi Rap ’ sung by director Param Gill is an Indo-Western fusion which opens with kabaddi chants like the one used in the popular Indian sport. It fuses the kabaddi chant in a rap style rendition by Gill to give a groovy start to the album.
TQ, the male lead who plays a hip-hop singer in the film gives the Kabaddi Rap his own touch in the track titled ‘Game’. He rightly plays around in Game to give it a more English flavour as compared to the original track. The jugalbandi between the guitar and rapping deserves a special mention. The same track appears in an instrumental version by Will Storkson.
Shaan sets the mood for a bhangra number with his husky singing in ‘ Laila ’. Param Gill shifts from singing to writing the lyrics of this track that’s ably composed by Satish-Ajay.
TQ teams up with Tatyana Ali in the love song ‘Sunny Valentine’ that has a lounge feel to it. Anand Merchant and TQ write this English number composed by Will Storkson. The instrumental version of the same track makes for a very soothing hear.
‘Illusive Rain’ plays in two versions, one sung by Sukhwinder Singh and another by Sunidhi Chauhan. Dominated with alaaps and raags , this one has an Indian classical flavour to it. Sukhwinder clearly has a better hold when it comes to classical singing though Sunidhi too does a decent job in the female version.
Interestingly the album comes to an end with the title track ‘Rockin Meera’ that’s an instrumental theme piece. There couldn’t have been a better way to conclude an album like this.
Rockin Meera certainly lives up to its name in coming up with a rocking soundtrack. Strongly recommended!

Meera falls in love with the lead singer Rock (T Q) who plays with a Hip Hop Band (called Nerve Block) in San Francisco. But, their families disapprove the relationship. Things get complicated when Meera disappears just before her planned wedding with Rock. Now Rock must make the trip to India to rescue Meera and bring her back. He is joined with his band mates, Shorty and Ana in the exhilarating adventure. They clash with the fiesty Prince who happens to be Meera’s fiancee. The comical joy ride unfolds in the jaws of a raging tiger, raining bullets and a zany match of wits. Debra Wilson plays a stellar role as Rock’s mother out to save her son in an unknown country. She has an apt match in swashbuckling Tiger Singh who would not hesitate to kill for his family pride. What happens when cultures collide and open fire?
